practical punctuation

Since punctuation has not been taught in many schools for years, plenty of people struggle with the little dots and squiggles that give meaning to a sentence.  This short session gives practical guidelines for using each mark with easy-to-remember rules.  Detailed handouts are given for future reference and there's even a free punctuation mousemat for each delegate.

Course content

Closing a sentence.

Different lengths and type of pause.
Separating text for ease of understanding, or for explanation.
Joining words with the apostrophe and hyphen.
Before or after the 's'?  Get the apostrophe in the right place every time.
Capital letters, which Words need them!
Punctuating with bullet points

Who should attend?
Anyone who wants to improve their use of punctuation

Method
A mix of syndicate exercises and discussion.

Administration
Duration: half day (usually 9.30-12.30 / 1.30-4.30)
Breaks: 11.00 / 3.00
All course handouts, detailed reference notes and stationery are provided
Minimum of six delegates, maximum of twelve
