Once people reach a point in their career where more formal e-mail or letter-writing becomes part of the job, many realise it is a skill which is outside their previous experience.  Much time is wasted editing and re-editing or staring at a blank screen wondering where to start. This course is an introduction to the process of writing business letters and e-mail and combines this with essentials of sentence construction and punctuation

Course content

How readers' image of the organisation and writer are affected by a letter.

Defining the objective and assessing the reader's needs.
Identifying the information that will interest or concern the reader.
Writing a clear sentence and correct use of all the punctuation marks.
Using a personal and relevant open and close.
Writing in a logical order

Who should attend?
Anyone who is starting to write business letters, or who wants to improve their writing and adopt a structure approach to a letter or e-mail.

Method
A mix of syndicate exercises and discussion based on a variety of business letters. Delegates are encouraged to raise their particular concerns and are welcome to bring examples of their letters for personal feedback.

Administration
Duration: one day (usually 9.30-4.30)
Breaks: 11.00 / 2.45
All course handouts, detailed reference notes and stationery are provided
Minimum of six delegates, maximum of twelve
