course: managing meetings

Meetings are a part of everyday working life and sometimes seem to be the purpose, rather than the means to an end. If meetings are to meet their objectives, they need to be chaired professionally with participants contributing appropriately.  However, few of those who chair meetings have any training or support and as a result time and money are wasted. This half-day course aims to give delegates the skills and confidence to set up, run and contribute to meetings effectively.

Course content
The role and input of the chairperson and participants
The sections of the meeting and how to manage each effectively
Using the agenda as a management tool
Encouraging and managing discussion
Action planning

Who should attend?
Anyone who leads, or will lead formal or informal meetings

Method
A mix of syndicate exercises and discussion; film (More Bloody Meetings)

Administration
Duration: half day (9.30-12.30 / 1.30-4.30)
Break: 11.00 / 3.00
Workbook, reference handouts and stationery are provided
Minimum of six delegates, maximum of twelve

 

 

At your office

If you have more than six who would benefit from the training (maximum of 12), an in-house course is the most cost-effective way of developing your colleagues' skills.  You only need to provide the room and a flipchart.
